Outset Medical and the Tablo® Hemodialysis System Honored as Winner of Fast Company’s Inaugural Next Big Things in Tech Award
Fast Company’s Next Big Things in Tech award highlights groundbreaking new technologies that promise to help define the future of the industries they serve and have a positive impact for consumers, businesses, and society at large in the next five years. Technologies considered for the award ranged from artificial intelligence and robotics to medical technology and consumer electronics, among others.
Out of nearly 1,200 entrants, winners were selected by a panel of Fast Company editors and writers based on the creative ways they apply cutting-edge technology to solve a real-world problem. Unlike existing hemodialysis machines, which have limited clinical versatility across care settings and are generally burdened by specialized and expensive infrastructure, Outset Medical’s Tablo Hemodialysis System is a single enterprise solution that can be seamlessly utilized across different care settings and for multiple clinical needs.
“We are honored to be chosen alongside other game-changing organizations to receive this award,” said Leslie Trigg, Outset Medical’s Chief Executive Officer. “For too long, end-stage kidney disease patients have faced a lack of innovation and options for their kidney treatment, restricting how, when, and where they dialyze. Tablo is designed to transform the experience of dialysis for patients and help providers overcome traditional care delivery challenges. As the first hemodialysis system on the market with FDA clearance for two-way wireless data transmission, Tablo is a powerful wireless data engine, both before during and after treatment in the hospital, in the home, and everywhere in between.”
In choosing the award winners, Fast Company’s organizers focused on products, services, features, research, and other technology efforts that are on their way to having a positive impact for consumers, businesses, or society at large. Entries from around the world, from any type of company or industry—including small-but-vital projects as well as large industry-shifting advances—applied for the award. Applications were judged on relevancy, ingenuity, and current and potential cultural and business impact.
