Rogosin Institute: Innovators in Home Dialysis
Summary
This New York-based not-for-profit center is known for its unique, patient-centered mission to empower more chronic kidney disease patients to dialyze at home, and was recently recognized for its innovative efforts with the Outset Pioneer Award.
As an old proverb says, “home is where the heart is.” That statement fits perfectly with the mission of the Rogosin Institute. Based in New York City, Rogosin is a leading not-for-profit kidney disease center that is recognized for its unique, team-based and patient-centered approach focused on empowering patients and their families to live their best lives. This includes offering the option of home hemodialysis, which is becoming increasingly popular thanks to the introduction of long-needed technological innovation. In fact, Rogosin’s home hemodialysis program is the largest and fastest growing plan of its kind in the region, and has achieved some impressive milestones. Currently, about 23% of Rogosin patients start their dialysis in the home, which compares to a national average of approximately 11%, a state average of about 6%, and an NYC average of less than 4%.
In January, the Rogosin Institute, an early adopter of the first-of-its-kind Tablo Hemodialysis System, was recognized with an Outset Pioneer Award from Outset Medical:
Outset Pioneer Award Winner: Rogosin Institute
Outset Medical has created a new award to acknowledge and permanently honor the critical role of the early, intrepid pioneers that, because of their resolute fearlessness, fortitude and faith, patients’ lives are being improved today by the Tablo Hemodialysis System.
In recognition and respectful appreciation of the Rogosin Institute’s pioneering, persevering, problem-solving inspiration and insights in the development of the Tablo Hemodialysis System, and for its dedication to and faith in Tablo at home, Outset Medical proudly presented their team with the Outset Pioneer Award. The award was presented on January 13, 2022, by Outset Medical’s CEO, Leslie Trigg, during Outset’s virtual National Sales Meeting in a presentation entitled “Innovators in Home Dialysis: Rogosin Institute’s Integrative Approach.” Accepting the award on behalf of Rogosin were Bruce Gordon, MD, Executive Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Strategy, Frank Liu, MD, Director of Home Dialysis, and Kimberly Davis, RN, Director of Home Therapy Operations (award image depicted here).
“This award was created to commemorate you and your team, and to permanently establish Rogosin as the earliest settler and a true pioneer of Tablo at home for your patients, and for patients nationwide,” said Trigg, as the Pioneer Award was being presented. “Reaching the pinnacle of Rogosin has been one of the crowning achievements of this company. Your organization is a true pioneer, which is defined as a someone who originates or helps to open up a new line of thought, activity or a new method. We are honored that you were the first to settle in the Tablo territory of home. You chose Outset’s Tablo system not because everybody was doing it, but instead because you thought it was the right thing to do, and you were willing to push forward based on that conviction. You are defining the future. Your work will enable the success of patients nationwide, and for that we want to pass along our gratitude.”
